Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “why do I do what I do?”

(A Marketing Strategy to which we are all exposed.)

What actually shapes our purchasing choices?

It might feel like we are making conscious, logical decisions but research shows that much of our buying behaviour is shaped by things we barely notice. Our decisions are shaped by the way choices are presented, even if we are not consciously aware of it.

The ads on the television, the colours in the supermarket, the messages on our phones, what we repeatedly see and hear all influence how we think.

The messages we are constantly bombarded with become embedded even when we don’t pay attention to them.

For example, consider one short message or sound bite that we are exposed to frequently. It subliminally becomes familiar until it feels like part of the norm, potentially altering our buying habits.

Ask someone to recall something in the news a few weeks ago and they may struggle.

But say to them, “Just Do It!” and they will instantly think of Nike. Not because it is important, but because it is so frequently repeated and promoted.

What would potentially happen to our businesses if we could choose just one short idea, message or value, and frequently shared it?
